What to do in Varenna
Varenna is a charming village on the banks of the Lecco branch, characterized by the typical pastel colored houses. It is one of the most characteristic destinations of Lake Como and offers some of the most beautiful views of the lake. Located in the central part of the lake, it can be reached from Bellagio, Tremezzo, and Menaggio by ferry or private boat. The village of Varenna is divided into a network of narrow streets that descend steeply towards the lake. The promenade along the lake, called via dell’amore is very charming.

Villa Monastero
Not far from the center stands Villa Monastero, whose name derives from the building’s original use as a place of spiritual retreat for Cistercian nuns. Today the villa and the garden is open to public, the entrance ticket is 10 Euros.

Castello di Vezio

At about 200 meters above Varenna center, there is the Castello di Vezio, the tower of a medieval castle, home of the Lombard queen Teodolinda. The castle is open to the public for visits. From here you can admire a fantastic view of the lake. The castle also houses a falconry center with a treatment and training center for birds of prey. For those who are in Varenna without a car, the castle can be reached on foot in about an hour.
